The CPD Revolution

Schools can be quiet places. Watching on from the Twitter sidelines at teachers seemingly surrounded by networks of excited, passionate colleagues can be isolating. Not every school is full of engaged leaders. Not every team is stacked with colleagues who enthuse over the latest research papers and books. Maybe it is an isolated culture. None of that really matters.

Of the teachers I work with, I am, as far as I know, the only one who (1) reads any research (2) connects through social media with others and (3) is excited to engage with new practice.

Many teachers I work with seem content. Or they are busy and this is just a job. Either way, they use the same planning, deliver in the same old ways and approach lessons in a haphazard way. And their classes are fine. Not much more. Kids are happy. They learn somethings. And maybe that is enough.

Over the last 2 years I have discovered the networks available on Twitter, blogs, new letters and books. It has been riveting and invigorating to connect with those who really care.

It saddens me that others I work with do not see their job with the enthusiasm I do. I want to find a way for them to engage with this world more. So, I am planning ways to engage them. To deliver content to them. Through this blog. Through staff meetings. Through conversations and planning meetings and observations. There is an exciting world of other professionals out there and our job can be exciting and enthusing and engaging in so many ways.

This is simply a place for me to collate and develop my ideas as they come to me. To discuss the things I try. To slowly unpick my thoughts. And to possibly discover a way to invite more people into professional conversations.
